About York Beach Maine
Breathtaking coastal scenery, broad, sandy beaches and quaint, picturesque New England villages mark the
Southern Maine Coast. Tourists and residents can feast on lobster in the rough or dine at one of the many fine
restaurants or inns; explore classic lighthouses, secluded harbors and rocky shorelines, or shop at the Kittery
Outlets, antique shops or local boutiques. Four seasons of activities include seasonal festivals, cultural events,
historical museums, theater and nightlife. Beautiful sandy beaches, inlets and harbors offer endless opportunities
from swimming and sailing to sea kayaking and fishing.
York has miles of sandy beaches: the popular Long Sands and Short Sands, and the more secluded Cape Neddick
and Harbor Beaches. From the carousel and arcades at York Beach to the peace and quiet of the wilderness areas,
York has something for everyone.
The Old York Historical Society operates a community museum, which includes the oldest jail in America, where“history comes alive” for all ages. Maine’s largest zoo and amusement park is in the heart of York Beach, and
on a clear day one can see miles of scenic coast from the top of Mount Agamenticus. No trip to York is complete
without a trip to Nubble Lighthouse, perhaps the most beautiful. There are family-oriented special events yearround
in York, including Harvestfest in October, and York Days, a week-long celebration of summer in York
Beach. There are also weekly summer outdoor concerts in the park overlooking the ocean. A wealth of fine
restaurants and accommodations, including oceanfront resorts, campgrounds, and cozy bed & breakfasts, will
make York a vibrant vacation location.
Downtown York Beach is located on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean. It consists of gift shops, restaurants,
coffee shops, hotels, entertainment establishments, convenient stores, jewelry shops, and other small retail
shops that continually draw vacationers and travelers from all over the world.
